Massage Therapy Program

Our extensive 600-hour Massage Therapy program is meticulously designed to integrate both theoretical knowledge and practical instruction, ensuring that you receive a comprehensive education in the art and science of therapeutic massage.

 

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be awarded a certificate that meets the necessary requirements for the MBLEx national entry-level exam which is essential for applying for licensure as a Massage Therapist in the State of Maine.

 

Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in Swedish and neuromuscular massage while also emphasizing specialized techniques such as lymphatic, trigger point, and advanced methods. We place a significant focus on addressing stress injuries and promoting recovery through massage therapy.

 

Our program is structured to equip you with rich, in-depth content and the professional development necessary to thrive in either a private practice or clinical setting. Academic Calendar 2025-2026

Classes will be held, in person, on a Monday through Thursday schedule from 9:00am - 2:00pm. Holidays, vacations, and term breaks have been scheduled. Unforeseen cancellations due to weather, health, emergencies, etc will be managed as needed.

Educational and Practical Modules:

  • Mod One Massage: This covers basic anatomical positioning and a whole Swedish routine 

  • Mod One Basic Anatomy & Physiology: Foundational learning covering Muscular and Skeletal A&P

  • Mod Two Massage: A more advanced study of bodywork covering Neuromuscular Massage:

  • Positional release  - passively moving the restricted area into a position of ease to help interrupt the neurological feedback signals creating spasm.

  • Range of Motion - assessment and manipulation techniques to mobilize the anatomy through assisted stretching techniques.

  • Myofascial Release - addressing the fascia and connective tissues throughout the body and working with soft-tissue melting techniques.

  • Mod Two Advanced Anatomy & Physiology: Covers the musculoskeletal system in greater detail, along with limited cellular anatomy.

  • Mod Three Massage: Exploration of additional modalities:

    • Reflexology - used to relieve tension throughout the body by massaging reflex points on the feet and hands.

    • Craniosacral - helps relieve pain and tension by gentle manipulations of the skull, restoring a natural rhythm in the central nervous system.

    • Lomi Lomi - traditional Hawaiian massage that uses a combination of massage techniques focused on flow to soothe the body

    • Tool Assisted Massage - Students will utilize tools including, but not limited to, cupping, IASTM instruments, handheld percussive tools, etc

  • Mod Three Advanced Anatomy & Physiology: Covers the systems of the body and their pathologies, excluding the skeletal and muscular systems.

  • Business Skills – The overall goal is to help students establish a business foundation that will support a successful professional bodyworker in the long term. The specific goal is to help students define and develop a basic business plan, review marketing, and quality control.

  • Professional Development and Empowerment Training – Elevating professionalism to the next level, the goal is to define the student’s mission and vision, create brochures, and provide the student with in-depth client empowerment through upholding clear, professional ethics.

  • In-Class Clinics – Evaluating professional skills in a clinical setting is invaluable for learning and honing skills as a therapist.

  • Advanced Integration, Evaluation, and Professional Communications – A detailed evaluation of technique, communications skills, and professional demeanor designed to give you the highest levels of success.

  • Stones Massage – Learn proper techniques for applying hot and cold stone massage.

  • Oncology – A detailed, hands-on approach to treating clients with cancer.

  • Event Sports Massage – Prepares students to do pre- and post-massage at sporting events. Includes in-depth information about identifying potential hypothermic and hyperthermic conditions of the athletes.

  • Hydrotherapy – The application of heat and cold is both critical for protecting and healing injuries. Also adds value to the quality of the massage and helps relax tension.

  • Introduction to Energywork – Allow student exposure to the foundational practices of basic energy modalities, including, but not limited to, Reiki, Polarity, etc

  • Student Clinic Experience – Offers an optimal environment for practicing bodywork, communication, and business skills under supervision at the School clinic. The clinic is open to the public and will provide the student with a diverse practice base.
